Haunt pages, layouts to pencils
Categories: General
Here’s some of the work I’ve done for HAUNT. The layout is done by Greg Capullo, this process speeds things up a lot so I can get two books done a month. I then print out the layout on bristol board and draw my finished pencils on top.
The second page shown I changed a lot of the layout as you can see, just wanted a more energetic pose and to drop those faces coming at you in the foreground. Hope ya dig the peek at the process!
Later.
Ryan

The only way this could get better is if you never slept and were able to ink both Haunt and Invincible.
I’ll pay for the Red Bull if you want to make this happen.
you know what? they should just scan your pencils like that ultimate hulk vs wolverine artist guy. you know, what’s his face.
i totally dig looking at all this stuff, very inspirational! i love the way you changed capullo’s layout on that second page.
your changes seem more like a greg c. page than his original layout. bravo!
it seems like haunt has taken a lot of criticism for Mcfarlane’s style not meshing with your’s, but i got to say i really love it. Love invincible to.
I want to ink it. I’ll do it, Ryan. Srrskly.

P.S. Tiiight stoof, brudder.
I really enjoy seeing your take on the layouts. Your pencils have been great and I love what you’ve done with Capullo’s layouts!
Loving what you and the other guys are achieving with haunt. It may have taken a bashing for its clash of styles but I think it really works and am looking forward to the next issue. Also Invincible is still the best Superhero comic available in the marketplace. Man I wish I could get just a teaspoon of your talent i’d be unstoppable.
You are way too prolific and you make everybody but John Romita Jr. look like a bum
Really love the story and art style.I can see the team is still getting used to each other, but love the way issue #2 came out.Cant wait for issue #3.Hope this amazing team sticks together for the majority of the series.
Please explain just how you print the layout on to bristol and then draw over it. Is it printed as a blue-line?
Normally, I would create a xerox of the layout at 11×17 and then light-box that to the board.
Hey Ryan,
What’s up man. Dude haunt is getting better and better. Really dig the way you’ve taken the visual look of the character. I’ve always found that working off someone else’s layouts is harder for me to do a finish, but you’ve really done a fantastic job. That splash from below is amazing, i would have grumbled under my breath with all those buildings framing the image…but you knocked that out. Great stuff man.

I love these pages, Capullo’s layouts are great and you just knocked them out of the park with the pencils. Please post more if you can, I love this stuff!:)
