Ok so I had to draw up the cover to 39 of Invincible and I did some sketches and Robert and I decided on what we wanted, then I went for it. And I couldn’t do it. I started on it and it just looked like complete crap, so I scrapped that one and drew it again, and that time it was going good until this dork artist I know that was over drawing with me in my studio pointed out that it wasn’t very dramatic having a big ship flying RIGHT at you. And …he was right. SO I drew a bunny on top of the ship, scrapped the drawing and started over. This time I chose a good angle and started going and I really tried to make the ship seem huge and open, I hope you all think I pulled it off ok. Let me know. Already posted this cover on other boards but it is one of my personal favorites so I’ll post it here on my site. Colors by Bill Crabtree. I made prints of this cover and a few others to sell at cons, people really seem to like prints, I’ll be doing that at every con I go to now.

Here is the pencils and inks to a page from issue 34. I loved this issue, loved drawing it, loved the story. This is how I work for every page now, since I ink my own work I keep the pencils fairly loose and just tighten everything up with inks, so inking takes longer for me since alot of actual drawing is done at that time also. Poor lil’ fetus dude is hatin life. Ok bye.

As soon as my Copic markers came in the mail I tried them out, fun stuff. I use these at conventions for commissions and sketches. I love these things, they feel like they blend better than Prisma, I love that brush tip and the colors are great. Wish I had time to use them more than just at conventions. sigh.

I did a couple cards for Upperdeck, I liked this one the best. The Sentry is a Marvel character that kicks all kinds of butt.

So if you have not read Invincible 33 yet then you might not want to see this post. It’s a fight scene between Angstrom Levy and Mark(Invincible). This is one of the funnest fight scenes I’ve drawn, I loved doing it, I pieced together the whole scene right here, just for YOU. Mark goes fricken ballistic. Enjoy.

So I read this awesome little book called the Walking dead and it is awesome. I love the story, I love the art, Adlard does some cool stuff, the greyscales are done by Cliff Rathburn, he’s this super-talented dude who can do anything, pencil, ink, color, he can do it all and do it WELL. He inked 4 of issues of Invincible for me and I learned quit a bit from him. ANYWAY, he also does back covers on the Walking dead. I love drawing zombies, for some reason nasty rotting things are so fun to draw! SO I drew this Zombie here and Cliff will soon be inking it and greyscaling it and it will be on the back of an upcoming Walking dead issue. Can’t wait to see it finished.
And it only seemed fitting to use my signature from the 90’s. heh.

Here is the sketch to pencils to inks for this splash page in issue 34. Yeah the Gaurdians of the globe look much different then they normally do, are they from the FUTURE?!? read it, you’ll see why.
I don’t do thumbnail sketches very much anymore except for splash pages like this and covers. I use the thumbnail to get a feel for what I want, then I draw it again on large bristol board, I usually keep the pencils loose, this time they are pretty tight. I ink using a Rapheal #2 brush, Hunt 102 pen nib, Staedtler and Pitt pens. Then I scan it and send it off to be colored, then I kiss it and throw in my ever growing stack of pages.

My old website is gone!!!!!! Yeah, it was old and I never updated it anyway, so I thought I’d get one of these blog thingies that are all the rave these days. Someday I’ll get a site set up that has some galleries and all that but right now I’ll have fun with this. I’ll be posting often, things I’m working on, things I do just for fun. You’ll see alot of Invincible work, and maybe I’ll post some of that Superman/Batman stuff too, and other stuff I’m doing on the side for fun.
