Gaurdians of the Globe

A panel from issue 48 of Invincible. The pencils shown here are REALLY sketchy. Basically I inked the foreground characters, Immortal and Robot, then I added more to the background characters with a pencil then inked them. I’m just letting you know these are not the fully completed pencils, there was some extra work added between scans. Just like the Wolfman panel. Sometimes I like to do it this way.

This issue is at the printer, and for some reason it’s always hard to say when it’ll be coming out exactly. But USUALLY it’s two weeks, sometimes three. So I am guessing February 6 or 13.

Brit panel from issue 48 of Invincible. I’ve got to draw quite a lot of Brit lately, I don’t mind, the guy is just cool. And his Cyborg homie Donald is just as cool. Brit’s a nice character, I get to draw him being eaten or hit by any size of monster and nothing happens to the guy, that’s his only power, indestructable. And I love that, he’s not super strong or anything, but he can take ANY punch. Friggin cool.

Another panel from Invincible 48. Dynamo5 appears a few times here also, fun stuff! BTW Robert Kirkman posted the first 6 pages of issue 48 on his blog. Click HERE!

The book is pretty late. We’re working like crazy to get it back on track. I know fans want the book to come out on time but trust me I want it to come out on time even more. I don’t get paid until 2 months after each issue comes out, so when it comes out late, then so does my check. So yeah, we’re working on it, and it’ll be coming out on a more regular basis very soon. I might even try an inker here and there to help out. We’ll see.

Another panel from issue 48. This issue was especially fun to draw because I got to make up monsters on the spot, they are all over the place. FUN stuff!

Wolf-man

A panel I did from issue 48. The issue is FINALLY at the printers so it shouldn’t be too long now. Sorry about the wait. I’ll be posting a few panels from it for the next few days. I LOVE drawing this Wolf-man dude! I would show the pencils but they are so sketchy it’s really nothing to look at. This was one of those panels where I didn’t want to work on the pencils too much, I wanted to go straight to inks, so I scanned the pencil layout version that’s not worthy to show and then pencilled it piece by piece as I inked it. I do this occasionally. Wolf-man appears in 48 and 49, I’m glad I get to draw this dude more than once.

And here it is inked up, I did pencils and inks just so ya know. I use Staedtler brush pens and regular Staetdler pens.

You can see I changed Brit’s body in this version. Robert wasn’t too keen on the arms folded pose. I agree, and I like this version better also.

Walking Dead 50 variant cover

Pencils-Erik Larsen

Inks- ME

So Robert Kirkman called me up one day and asked if I wanted to do a crazy variant cover for the Walking dead issue 50 that shows all the Walking dead characters as super-heroes. Ya know because tons of Marvel books were doing variant zombie covers for super-heroes for no reason, so Robert thought he’d do a variant super-hero cover for his zombie book. I liked the idea but I told him no, it’s just too much work for a jokey type cover and I just don’t have the time to design characters and do a gatefold cover. So he then asked me if I’d ink it if he got Erik Larsen to draw it. I said HELL YES! He calls up Erik Larsen and asks him, Erik says it’s just too much work for a jokey type of cover. heh. So Robert offered to design the characters and do a layout. And we went to work on it. I was pretty exited about all this. I love Larsen’s layout’s and energetic big fisted action. I geeked out on this big time and had a lot of fun inking it. Hope ya like.

Happy new year everybody! Thought I’d share a little taste of issue 48. The holidays held this issue up a bit but it should be out in a few weeks. Doc Seismic is somewhat angry.
