We drew ladies! I need practice drawing LOTS of things but especially ladies. We had 8 artists show up tuesday night. Alan Tew, Jon Diesta, Tom Scholes, Derek and Rachel Hunter, and 2 other folks but their names are no longer kept on file mentally. Some people drew their own thing but Alan, Jon, Rachel, and I drew the ladies.
I don’t know if you can tell but the first sketches here feel very stiff to me. It’s crazy how one needs to warm up to get better flowing sketches. I should do warm-up sketches every morning. Hmmm. Anyway you’ll see my creepy version of Manga art at the bottom, Derek helped me out and added some Japanese.

These next sketches are more of those where we trade and add to each other’s art. I love doing this. You get a good feel of the other artists knowledge of anatomy, everyone learns anatomy differently so it’s great seeing and feeling those differences first hand. These are sketched by Alan Tew and finished by me except for the middle one. Rachel Hunter sketched that one for me. Oh and obviously that last sketch is NOT a lady, but he’s dancing a bit and is in touch with his feminine side at the moment so I thought to include him.

And this last one is another sketch by Alan and finished by me. And a scary face that was a scribble by Rachel Hunter, she wanted to see me make something out of it. Yes that is a lady, see the eyelashes? Come one, men don’t have eyelashes silly!

Thanks for comin by everybody!

So there were just three of us on Tuesday night, Alan Tew, Tom Scholes, and ME. While Tom was busy busting out his backgrounds, Alan and I were playing with more figure work. We traded drawings again here, I drew Alan some quick sketchy undetailed figures and he drew me some, then we do the finishes on each others work. The left one the goal was to do a very difficult pose to finish off, I turned Alan’s sketch into some kind of catman, his pose just looked like he’d be playing with yarn so I had to add that. And the dude on the right we decided to go straight to inks over eachother’s sketches. Fun stuff, I totally enjoy doing this, it really helps me loosen up a bit. Tom suggested the dude should have fish net stockings on, I thought it was a great idea and added quite a lot of sexyness to him, so Tom said. I have to disagree. Oh and I gotta thank Tom for showing me the OLD GREG vid on his Iphone. Creepy and disturbing but funny as hell, Thanks Tom.
Alan will probably post the drawings that he drew on top of my sketches on his site sometime soon. Be sure to check it out> Alan Tew blog.
I’ll post my last page of sketches tomorrow. See ya!

I’ll be posting sketches I did at this week’s draw night for the next 3 days. We did lots of sketches so I’ll break them up into separate days. This is my first batch of sketches I did, trying to warm up a bit here. I see a lot of girls wear those puffy hats, one was in the coffee shop we were drawing in. Here is another attempt at drawing the silver surfer, but like always it didn’t work out. The arms are all short and dumb looking and I couldn’t get the legs how i wanted. So this brand new character was the result! See you guys tomorrow.

Alan, Tom, Jon, and I hung out at a coffee shop tonight and drew like crazy. I’m hoping drawing around these talented dudes makes my art stronger. I only want to learn and get better and drawing with talented people definitely help.
I love the Silver Surfer but I can’t ever seem to draw the guy. I mean sure here he looks ok here but come on, he’s just standing there. I’m talking about drawing him looking awesome. I think there is a certain classic sleekness about him that I just can’t do and make him look cool at the same time. I’ll keep working on it though. I know it has something to do with the anatomy that I’ve become accustomed to, I gotta push my limits harder or I’m gonna go nuts. So anyway most of the page is just random faces, the second page is a monster eating a guy. Alan and Jon were drawing monsters so i didn’t wanna be left out. Until next time, see ya laters.
A few posts ago I linked to the other artists blogs, if you want to see what they did go check out their sites.

And here’s the last of what I got from my draw night sketching. I’ll have more next week. The dude with the jet pack looks a little like Riddick, I wasn’t planning on that, it just ended up looking that way. I am a big Riddick fan so maybe I subconsciously drew him. Man I hope they make the Underverse movie. I needs more.
A little update for you all, I still have no official dates but issue 48 of Invincible should be coming out anytime now. Hopefully next week. I just finished the last page of issue 49 yesterday. Starting issue 50 SOON! I’m excited.

Here’s some more random sketches I’ve done at various draw nights.

So I’ve been doing draw night with a few artists for the last couple of weeks. I missed this week but I’ll be going again next week. So I’ll have more sketches to post up then. Anyway the draw nights are cool, it’s always a nice mix of artists, mostly it’s artists from a game company here in Utah called Avalanche. They have SO many talented artists that work there, it’s pretty amazing. Some Avalanche guys that come regularly are of course Alan Tew, whose art is beyond awesome. He’s been posting his draw night sketches on his blog, I highly reccommend going and checking out his work right now, HERE IS HIS BLOG!
Also Derek and Rachel Hunter, blog HERE! And Tom Scholes, blog HERE! And Jon Diesta, blog HERE! Also Tyler Kirkham has come and drawn with us, along with many other artists who’s names I have forgotten. Sorry!
This drawing is one where 4 of us artists took turns drawing on it. Tom does mainly backgrounds so he sketched in some BG, and then Alan sketched in those 2 figures, and Jon sketched in the monster. Basically each artist just sketches a rough under drawing for the next artist to use. I did finished pencils over everything, it was a lot of fun, Alan does some of the most expressive figures so doing finishes on those are very different than my own work, it’s quite refreshing. You can see his finishes over my sketches on his blog. I’ll post more draw night sketches tomorrow. See ya.
